Officials in Fauquier County, Virginia, are threatening to fine the owner of a farm for selling produce and crafts without a special license and for hosting a 10-year-old’s birthday party without an appropriate permit. Martha Boneta, owner of the 70-acre Liberty Farms in Paris, Virginia, could be fined $5,000 for the violations. Farmers throughout the county joined Boneta at a hearing on August 2, where they organized a “pitchfork protest” in which they held signs and farming tools in support of Liberty Farms and its owner.
