Every month through October, Election Spotlight will provide insight into the 2012 elections and their implications for business, free enterprise, and our nation’s prospects for strong economic growth.
Quite simply, this year’s elections are the most consequential in recent history. The business community is increasingly under attack. Job creators are facing massive tax hikes and a deluge of new rules and regulations that breed uncertainty, restrict growth and hiring, and stifle our competitiveness. Rather than addressing the myriad problems facing the economy, some candidates are resorting to class warfare rhetoric in a bid to win public office.
If the business community won’t stand up for free enterprise—the one economic system that can restore our nation to growth, prosperity, and opportunity—then who will?
The U.S. Chamber’s political program in 2012 will be the largest and most aggressive in the organization’s 100-year history. The program, founded in 1996, aims to get out the business vote and educate voters on pro-jobs issues and the candidates who support them.
We’ve already launched campaigns in target states where we have the chance to bolster pro-business interests in the Senate and protect gains achieved in the House. Through television advertising and multidimensional grassroots campaigns across the country, we are educating voters on where the candidates stand on policies that will put millions of Americans back to work.
We’re now excited to announce the newest component of the Chamber’s political program: www.VoteforJobs2012.com. This new online platform is a clearinghouse for the latest election news and polling, race overviews, key dates, and profiles of the candidates in the races we’re watching. An educated electorate is the most certain way to alleviate the pain that businesses are feeling from Washington and move forward with smart pro-growth policy.
With your help, we can ensure that 2012 is truly the historic campaign that our country needs to recover. Check back every month for more news and analysis on issues and candidates.
