Readers Weigh In on Agencies, Gov. Daniels, Lawsuit

Feb 2, 2012

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

All the regulation we might need is already contained in existing statutes. We do not need any more agencies. Existing agencies should be made to perform satisfactorily. More bureaucracy will solve nothing.—Gary Krantz, Longmont, CO

Honest businesses have nothing to fear from consumer protection. In the long term, businesses will be better off with the level playing field represented by stronger consumer protection. If Elizabeth Warren had been confirmed in the first place, Republicans might have kept a seat in Massachusetts. But no, her confirmation was blocked, and now the Democrats will be gaining a seat.—Ben Coleman, Pawtucket, RI

Congress has failed, as usual, to provide the really clear, clean, and stringent laws to govern the out-of-control financial sector and has failed to provide the funding necessary for the manpower required to protect consumers from the barrage of new predatory practices being created on a daily basis.—Carter Waid, Houston, TX

National Labor Relations Board

The unelected bureaucrats are making decisions they deem best for all. Giving unions unfettered rights to bully innocent people into joining their mob is unconscionable. I’ve worked with unions and union organizing in industry for 50 years. The entitlement portion of our society doesn’t get why jobs are leaving the United States, and in my opinion, neither do most Americans.—Harry Schickling, Bedford, VA

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels

America needs to pay attention to Gov. Daniels! He is proof that all is not lost when it comes to economic leadership in our government—Dan Binder

We can only hope, probably without getting our wish fulfilled, that a Republican president would get Mitch to be the Secretary of the Treasury. Or, perhaps, he could claw back what was left of the U.S. Attorney General’s office after it has been despoiled by Holder. Lots of criminal politicians should go to jail ... both parties. —Gary Mullennix, Naples, FL

Gov. Daniels would make an outstanding VP with his keen insight of finance and the management of America.” —Rick Casey, Basye, VA

Prisoner Sues Over Lack of Access to Pornography

What a shame that this has even made its way as far as it has in our legal system! No wonder our courts are so slow moving when lawyers see fit to enter claims like this!—M.M. Knoxville, TN

Is this guy for real? Who is seriously thinking about taking this case? Shame on our justice system for even hearing this lame outcry. Is he looking for some media attention, some sort of sympathy, unfairness in prison? WHO CARES! There are real people in America who are in jeopardy: families losing their homes, walking the streets seeking shelter for their children, and wondering where they’re going to get their next meal.—Chad Garrett, Naples, FL

I hope that no court in our country gives any consideration to this or any other senseless action. Inmates need to realize that we can only enjoy freedom if we are responsible citizens. If we decide to break the law, our freedom should be taken away until we take responsibility. This young man should be requesting an education, instead of trying to abuse the system that is supporting him.—Rosa Kindig, Camden, DE
