Today in New York City at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, a Hiring Our Heroes job fair connected over 1,000 veterans and military spouses with over 100 employers. Dr. Jill Biden, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Vice Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Sandy Winnefeld, with his wife, Mary Winnefeld, and Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer all attended.

At the job fair, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce along with the National Chamber Foundation and Capital One announced the "Hiring 500,000 Heroes" campaign encouraging the business community to hire half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014. Capital One has pledged $4.5 million to support job fairs and workforce training initiatives.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Kevin Schmiegel, the man leading Chamber’s Hiring Our Heroes program said the 500,000 goal was aggressive, "but we are confident that it is also an achievable goal."
