Two New Surveys Show Increase in Economic Confidence
Two new surveys released today confirm Americans’ growing optimism and increased confidence in our nation’s economy. For the week ending January 8, the Gallup Economic Confidence Index improved to -27, signaling an economic confidence that has steadily risen since the summer, when it fell below -50. The results reflect the most positive economic confidence Gallup has measured since May 2011.
The National Federation of Independent Business’ small business Optimism Index rose to 93.8 last month from 92.0 in November, marking the fourth consecutive increase in small business owners' economic confidence. NFIB says: “About half of the gain was due to reduced concerns about business conditions 6 months ahead and improved expectations for real sales gains.”
As Shopfloor.org notes, however, it is important to recognize that small businesses remain anxious despite their gains in confidence. Learn more about the Gallup poll here and the NFIB survey here.
