U.S. Chamber Testifies at SBA's First National Regulatory Fairness Hearing

Feb 28, 2007

The administration must take additional steps to address the burden of regulatory compliance, according to testimony delivered last week by the U.S. Chamber's Director of Small Business Policy and Executive Director of the Small Business Council Giovanni Coratolo.

Testifying before the inaugural hearing of the Small Business Administration's (SBA) National Ombudsman, Coratolo called for strengthening of existing programs through legislation, improved coordination between the SBA and its agencies, and continuing marketing and outreach programs to educate small businesses on the existence of the National Ombudsman office.

Coratolo also highlighted several instances where Chamber small business members have incurred problems with the agencies. "Small businesses bear a disproportionate regulatory burden. Much must continue to be done to ameliorate the burdens of regulation on small business," Coratolo said.

The SBA National Ombudsman's hearing gave business organizations an opportunity to comment on unfair or excessive federal regulatory enforcement that impacts on their members and small businesses nationwide.
