Slow Job Growth Predicted
Just 10,000 to 20,000 jobs are likely to be created in the next two and a half years compared with 20,000 jobs in the last year alone, according to a University of Connecticut report. A slowdown in the national economy and a worker shortage were cited.

Iowa
Development Board Approves Incentives
The Iowa Economic Development Board approved incentives for 14 new or expanded energy, retail, and manufacturing projects that are estimated to bring in or retain 2,700 jobs. The incentives include forgivable loans, tax credits, and $4.1 million in cash.

Louisiana
Governor Vetoes Tax Bill
Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D) vetoed a bill that would have cut a utility tax on businesses and provided tax incentives for manufacturers expanding in New Orleans. Blanco said that it would "create a significant revenue loss for the state."

State Tax Break Program a Success
As a result of an economic development initiative and tax relief, 116 companies are looking to locate or expand their facilities in the state; invest $4 billion, mostly in ethanol plants; and create more than 10,000 jobs, says Gov. Dave Heineman (R).

Poster Scam Aimed at Businesses
The State's Department of Labor has received reports of people posing as state officials and telling businesses that they must purchase new labor law posters or face fines. The posters are available for free and are not required by state law.
