Chamber Honors Pro-Business Lawmakers

Feb 28, 2009

Chamber President and CEO Tom Donohue (l.) presents Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) with the 2008 Spirit of Enterprise Award.

The U.S. Chamber presented 260 members of Congress with the Spirit of Enterprise Award for their votes on pro-growth legislation during the second session of the 110th Congress. In the 20th annual presentation of the Spirit of Enterprise Award, the Chamber recognized lawmakers who supported efforts to stabilize the economy and invest in transportation infrastructure and who opposed onerous climate change regulations and the expansion of pay discrimination liability.

Members of the Senate were judged on 8 key votes; House members, on 18 votes. Legislators who supported the Chamber's position on at least 70% of those votes received an award.
