Yesterday in Brasilia, President Barack Obama addressed the U.S. – Brazil Business Summit, a historic event hosted by the Brazil-US Business Council in conjunction with the National Conference Industry and the American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil. At the event, President Obama acknowledged the need to strengthen economic ties between the United States and Brazil to create jobs and business opportunities for both countries.

The President noted that “there is no question that the United States and Brazil benefit from the economic ties we’ve developed over the years. There’s no question that strengthening those ties would be a win-win for both our nations.” Click here to read the president's full remarks.

The president also laid out four areas that could be improved to strengthen those ties:

1. Launch of a new Economic and Financial Dialogue to promote economic cooperation, streamline regulations, and enhance international cooperation.
2. Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation to expand the trade and investment that creates jobs in both countries.
3. Launch of a Strategic Energy Dialogue to support the development of recently discovered oil.
4. Launch of U.S.-Brazil Green Economy Partnership to deepen cooperation on biofuels.

The Brazil-U.S. Business Council is encouraged to see that our recommendations were covered in the bilateral meetings. These initiatives will be critical elements to leverage the sustained economic growth in Brazil that has created many business opportunities for both Brazilian and U.S. companies.
