Chamber's India Council Hosts President Obama in Mumbai
Tomorrow, the U.S. Chamber-affiliated U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) will host the "U.S.-India Business & Entrepreneurship Summit" featuring President Obama in Mumbai. This is an exciting moment for the USIBC and for the U.S.-India economic relationship.
The summit is part of the USIBC's November 6-9 Presidential Executive Mission to India, which aims to strengthen the vital U.S.-India partnership. Bloomberg News reported:
The council, representing companies such as Intel Corp., Citigroup Inc., Boeing Co. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., has organized a group of 250 executives to visit India on what it calls the largest-ever U.S. trade mission...
Obama speaks to the India council three days after pledging to do a better job of "making absolutely clear that the only way America succeeds is if businesses are succeeding."
"The most important thing we can do is to boost and encourage our business sector," Obama said during his post-election press conference.
Since 95% of the world’s consumers live outside the United States, it makes great sense for President Obama to "boost and encourage" the U.S. business sector in booming economies such as India. As the world’s largest democracy and second-largest emerging market, India holds great promise for American workers, farmers, and exporters, as the president and a host of American business leaders will surely underscore this weekend.
