Small Business Summit - Overcast Skies, Overwhelming Enthusiasm

May 18, 2010

The enthusiasm of the small business community continued from the afternoon sessions of the America's Small Business Summit through the Photos on the Roof event this evening.

Rain and overcast skies could not deter the attendees of the Small Business Summit from climbing the stairs to the roof of the Chamber for a photo overlooking the White House across the street and the Washington Monument in the distance. Attendees were greeted on the rooftop with bright red umbrellas provided courtesy of Travelers, platinum sponsors of the Photos on the Roof session.

It was a joy to reunite with friendly faces including Tom Sawyner, CEO of Educational Options, Inc. and 2006 winner of the Small Business of the Year award and small business owner Isabelle Hilliard from Old Dominion Home Health Service, who exclaimed, "I wouldn't miss being here. I am a strong supporter of the Chamber." Dr. Janet Wolfe of Wolfe Laboratories, in town with her husband, is not only celebrating their win as a Regional Finalist for the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award, but also celebrating their wedding anniversary. They commented that they have a lot to be excited about.

On the first floor, attendees participated in the Contacting Congress Advocacy Campaign held by the Chamber's TradeRoots division in support of World Trade Week.  As the evening closed, several participants were heard commenting on their positive impressions of their first visit to Washington, D.C. and are looking forward to tomorrow's full agenda and Wednesday's Rally on the Hill.
