Blueprint for Immigration Reform
Today, in the Washington Post, Senators Charles Schumer and Lindsey Graham present a blueprint for immigration reform.
Our plan has four pillars: requiring biometric Social Security cards to ensure that illegal workers cannot get jobs; fulfilling and strengthening our commitments on border security and interior enforcement; creating a process for admitting temporary workers; and implementing a tough but fair path to legalization for those already here.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has long called for bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform legislation and has worked towards that goal over the last several years. We welcome Senators Schumer and Graham’s call to continue these efforts and we will work with all interested parties, including the unions, to achieve sound final legislation this year.
