IUP Talks Free Enterprise

Nov 20, 2009

A week ago thirty sophomores and juniors from the Indiana University of PA came to the Chamber to talk about Free Enterprise and what it means to them. They were intimidated by the thought of starting a business in today’s environment, they felt the risk of failure is too high given the state of the economy; many had worked for a small business -- think food services industry -- and saw the hard work owning your own business. That doesn't mean they don't want to work, in fact concerned about the job market they are already knuckling down and doing more in college – double majoring, joining more clubs, to try to distinguish themselves. It was interesting to me that they don’t equate having a job to being a part of the free enterprise system -- and I think that we need to talk more about that.  The biggest dreams are doomed to failure without a smart, committed team working together to make them a reality.
