Polling and the Public Option
"Public option gains support - CLEAR MAJORITY NOW BACKS PLAN" says the Washington Post this morning based on their new poll done with ABC News. With polling of course it is all in how you ask the question. Let's have a look, with my italics:
8. Would you support or oppose having the government create a new health insurance plan to compete with private health insurance plans? Do you feel that way strongly or somewhat?
Note the use of the word compete - it doesn't belong there. The goal of the public plan is not to compete with private health insurance plans on a level playing field, the goal of the public plan is to sneak in a single-payer, government run system. So I think question 8 should have been.
8. Would you support or oppose having the government create a new health insurance plan to shepherd in single-payer government run health care, eliminating private insurance plans as we know them? Do you feel that way strongly or somewhat?
Let's see those results. We need health reform; we do not need the public option.
