Not Big Labor's Day
This holiday weekend the American people will be celebrating workers, just not Big Labor. Although Labor Day is supposed to be a celebratory time for unions, Gallup delivered a big dose of bad news this year – its latest poll shows that fewer than half of Americans (48%) approve of labor unions. While two-thirds believe unions help their own members, 51% say they hurt the U.S. economy -- up from just 36% last year.

Some may also be put off by the use of union dues to pursue what many consider to be a liberal political agenda. Gov. Mark Parkinson is supporting an effort to require private companies and individuals working as service providers to state agencies to provide personal data on their employees so the state can pass the details on to SEIU, Service Employees International Union, one of the nation's largest unions.
