EFCA? Absolutely Not
Yesterday during our Labor Day Briefing Randy Johnson summed up our EFCA position for reporters, as Darrell Hughes reports:
The U.S.Chamber of Commerce on Thursday said it would only negotiate labor reform if legislation making it easier for workers to join unions was completely tabled, with talks starting from scratch. "We are not going to compromise using the Employee Free Choice Act as a base of negotiations," said Randel Johnson...Johnson's comments follow AFL-CIO's incoming President Richard Trumka's indication on Wednesday that his union could possibly negotiate the necessity of a key provision in the pending legislation, known as card check. Members of the business community had previously been asked whether they would accept the binding arbitration provision of the legislation if card check was eliminated - Johnson said "absolutely not."
