Who's The World's Largest Exporter?
Jul 23, 2009
The World Trade Organization (WTO) issued its World Trade Report 2009 yesterday, so we finally have the globally comparable data for 2008 to answer the question. It shows the United States remains the world’s largest exporter:
2008 Exports (in billions)
| Country | Merchandise | Commercial Services | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $1,301 | $522 | $1,823 |
| Germany | $1,465 | $235 | $1,700 |
| China | $1,428 | $137 | $1,565 |
So before we go off starting any trade wars we may want to consider the 1.8 trillion reasons not to.
