Philippine Development Proposal - Weigh In
by Taryn Bird
In a meeting held on March 11th in Washington, DC, acting CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Rodney Bent, discussed the MCC agenda for FY 2009 and the longer-term role the agency has in the Obama Administration.
During this outreach meeting, Bent invited the private sector to provide input on the MCC Compact proposal for the Philippines. Compacts are designed to be multi-year agreements between the MCC and an eligible country to fund specific programs targeted at reducing poverty and stimulating economic growth, with the end goal of creating a sustainable local business community.
Interested companies can review the proposal and submit comments here. To date the MCC has established 18 compacts in countries all over the world, 11 of which are in Africa.
MCC plans to carry on its tradition of hosting private-sector outreach sessions to discuss pending compacts and projects. Dates for these sessions will be available on the MCC website at the end of March, as well as on BCLC’s website.
