State of American Business Update
A good presser, you have to love informed questions. Since it was a hot topic I give you one "Letter to Congress - Legislation to Stimulate Economic Activity and Spur Job Growth".
The archived video will be available soon if you missed it, but why wait? Read the report here. Meanwhile here are some viewer comments from the briefing:

We will no longer stand by and watch as America's national security and economy become more dependent on the unstable foreign nations that we rely on for nearly 70% of the oil we use each day. President-elect Obama and the 111th Congress need to enact an energy plan that reduces our foreign oil dependence by at least 30% within ten years.
This plan must include proven American technology and resources; the development of new energy sources; and the expansion and modernization of the national electrical grid to transport renewable energy to homes and businesses. Delaying any further means tacit support for continuing America's addiction to foreign oil.
I urge you to join with T. Boone Pickens and his army of supporters in calling for an Energy Independence Plan to be enacted within the first 100 days of the Obama Administration. Happy New Year Lend your support at http://action.pickensplan.com/act.,

China is building a new 500 megawatt, coal-fired plant every two weeks. (Madisonville, KY)

China was - most of those plans are now shelved. They are now looking at nuclear and the French are of course way ahead in positioning their latest third generation technology. Again an example of Spanish wind turbines in Pa - US industry has a lot of catch up to get ahead in these areas.

I find all this "independence from foreign oil" nonsense irritating - surely sensible honest people can get this sort of talk permanently flushed? We need an interdependent world where trade is the main way nations - and peoples - interact. Hooray for keeping "unstable countries" in the international trade community! I'd say that's key to making them stable.
Also, am I the only one to think this massive "stimulus" package is an imminent catastrophe? This economy has been massaged and manipulated for eight years now - ever since the popping of Clinton's economic bubble - it's time to let it find its own level. The past eight years of preventing it from doing that has as much to do with the current crisis as anything else, I suspect. You don't give a sick horse a massive injection of adrenaline and flog it back into the traces! Times of urgency are when you need to proceed with the most caution. (Philadelphia, PA)

I also thing the stimulus package is a mistake. (Villanova, PA)
As Tom Donohue noted our views on stimulus are stronger than those of some of our members. The letter above gives a good outline of our position. It is critical that we don't just rush to spend; we need to invest in a deliberate fashion for short-term and long-term growth.
